About 1,830 employees in Nokia’s Romanian production unit will be laid off by the end of November, a month earlier than planned, due to lack of orders. This is part of the Finnish company’s attempt to reduce costs and   streamline the workforce. A parting gift includes a Nokia 500 phone.According to Romania Insider, the factory will cease to operate after November 30th. The employees will be paid by Nokia and receive the compensation packages negotiated with the management of the company between December and March. Valentin Ilcas, the leader of the Nokia Metal union, said Nokia will fund re-training courses and will also organize a process for those who want to apply for the amount of EUR 500 given by the company to  employees who want to open a business or continue their studies.
The Nokia 500 is an entry level touch screen smartphone featuring Symbian, a 1GHz processor, and a 5MP camera. The covers are changeable and 2 additional covers are included in the standard sales package.
