The Nokia Research Shows Off Indoor Mapping
Nokia Research wants to take what’s been done in navigation outdoors and bring it inside. Imagine using your phone to navigate through malls, exhibit halls and other large buildings. According to EE Times, Nokia gathered about 30 companies including chip makers and service providers on Tuesday at the Sunnyvale offices to show off their research. They want to create a formal group to set global standards for such indoor navigation services by 2013.
During the demonstration, Nokia put a Bluetooth tag on a Parrot Drone. The room had Bluetooth Low Energy antenna arrays mounted on the ceiling to triangulate the drone’s location in real time. Check out this video from IntoMobile.
I can think of one application that would be really cool. When I go shopping for clothes, I usually look at mannequins’ outfits or store displays to help me figure out what to buy. The stores can have barcodes on the mannequins or posters. I’ll scan with my phone and the navigation app will open to help me find the items.
What are some other ways we can use this technology?
