Finally, I have my compy back. Right after I returned from LA last Friday I discovered that the graphics card on my computer was dead so I had to take it to the Apple store and have it repaired. Now I have it back and can write again! Yay! So this may run a little long as I cover my adventures in LA and the week that followed.
The flight to LA was uneventful and it was wonderful to be out of the snow and back in the sunshine. Unfortunately as I putting my squirmy daughter into my car on the way to the airport, I cracked my already chapped lip open on the door and that just looked ghastly and I was unable to do any work during my week in LA. That didn't stop me from having fun. I saw a few of LA's sights. My Fiance, daughter and a friend of ours went out to dinner a couple of times. First to a wonderful Greek diner called the Firehouse. Great food, check it out, but you may have to park on a side street. Like most places in LA, there is very little parking. Later in the week we went to Norm's and then up to the Griffith Observatory. The view of the city was amazing. We went at night and got to see the city lights as they sprawled out as far as the eye could see. Breathtaking. The observatory itself is a total work of art. From the way the building is constructed to the paintings inside to the scale model of the solar system in the front courtyard, everything comes together as one work. I have always been a huge fan of astronomy so this was a big thrill for me. On Thursday we went to a gallery showing of the art of Dave McKean, cover artist for Sandman and several other great comics that you should check out. The paintings and prints were an ingenious mix of collage and paint that just blows your mind away. He themed the show on German Expressionistic Cinema. It was just wonderful to see the way that McKean takes a familiar image and reinterprets it in a way that makes you see it completely differently. There is one piece based on the original Nosferatu, the scene where Nosferatu is leaning over the woman sleeping, where he uses this Dali-esque distortion and deep shadows to emulate the true darkness of the film in one painting. So freaking cool.
I also spent a day roaming around LA doing go sees with Valley Babes' Sophie Dee, Sierra Skye, Kendra Star and Jay Lowe. For those of you who don't know what a go see is, it's where a model or models go see a number of producers and directors so that they can meet face to face. In a business where a lot of things are done via email it is nice to meet people one on one. It was a ton of fun to ride around with the girls all day, rolling into producers' offices, getting naked and then jumping in the car and doing it all again. Oh I didn't mention the naked part? Part of meeting people in person is that they want to get a naked photo of you for their records. Just a quick snapshot of what you really look like without the tricks of lighting and the ever present Photoshop. I did get to meet the folks at Hustler, Jules Jordan and several other wonderful producers and got an inside snoop on some of their upcoming projects. Hopefully meeting everyone will get me a bunch of new work when I get back out to LA in March.
After we got home, we unpacked the computer to find the graphics cards not working. *Pout* So I set my daughter to bed and planned on a quiet night of knitting or comic book reading or sex. Unfortunately, my daughter woke up around 11pm she would not stop screaming and had to be rushed to the ER where they diagnosed a double ear infection and croup. Fun! The next day, when I went to go get her prescription from Walgreen's the car broke down. Thankfully we have a bit of money saved up from tax returns and shoots, so the rental car was not an issue. The car and computer are back now and my daughter is back to being her adorably messy, noisy self. Thank you all for your wonderful get well wishes!
My Fiance and I have begun to watch the first part of season one of Flash Forward. If you enjoy Lost, Alias or Fringe, you will love this show. I was hooked after the first episode. Solid cast, interesting concept and a hell of a lot of what-the-fuck moments. Check it out.
I also just spent about 2 hours organizing a box of World Wake Magic cards. Dude, there are so many good cards here I really don't know where to start in putting a new deck together. We literally have all but 12 of the World Wake cards. This is my first time constructing a deck from scratch. Yes, there are still
some things I am a virgin at. So, if you have any suggestions send them my way.
So now that you know what has been going on in my life I am going to watch my fiance play his new game, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Any game that starts with you almost falling to your death is a win in my book. Goodnight all. Talk to you soon.
